I am owned by three rescued pets, two dogs and a cat, which means a lot of love, a lot of fun, but also a lot of poop, and as a result a lot of plastic bags that have to be used to get rid of all of that waste. However, I am no fan of adding more garbage into an already struggling environment, so I did some research for high-quality doggy bags, that are also better for the environment as the standard bags available out there – while being easy to find. Let’s face it, if I have to drive to a specialty store to get specialty bags, I am not going to do that.
After a few misses – I am just going to say thin bags that don’t hold up to the demands of a seasoned doggie leftover, and leave the rest to your imagination – I finally came across a product that is both sturdy and environmentally friendly.
I love Earth Rated Doggy bags! Because we have some family members with sensitive to scents, and dogs with allergies, I chose to use the unscented variety, and love them.
Unlike some bags – for example, Amazon Basics black doggy bags – these bags separate easily from the roll without tearing. That is very confident, as I really don’t enjoy the struggle of pulling bags apart, when my dogs want to simply pull me elsewhere, as soon as they do their business. Yet, they are thick and not see-through (thank you!). Each roll holds 120 bags, and they are available in multiple package sizes, depending on how many dogs you have, and how much storage space you have available.
The Canadian based company states, that their bags have an EPI additive, which aids them in the breakdown process, which in turn, is one of the aspects that makes them biodegradable, and I love that. Widely available in many well-stocked pet stores, they are also available on Amazon (and you get free shipping if you are a Prime member!) so that I never run out of them.Thoughtful Dog Parenting: Use Earth-Friendly Doggy Bags From Earth Rated Click To Tweet
The last thing I want to mention is that these are not bags with handles – which is a plus for me. I have never liked bags with handles, which is what turned me off from another earth-friendly bag called ZippyPaws. They are also biodegradable, and if they would not have the handles, they would give Earth Rated doggy bags a run for their money.
Now that you are armed with this information, you can safely, and without any accidents get to cleaning up your doggies deposits. But if you need any more convincing why you should clean up after your dog, check out this handy infographic by Earth Rated.
