Life can only be understood backward, but it must be lived forwards.
I tend to go into the second half of the year reflecting upon how the first half went, summoning up achievements and successes, and analyzing failures. But there is a chance, that one can overdue the reflections, spending too much time, on what went wrong, and focusing on the negative, instead of what you can do FROM THIS POINT FORWARD to make a better life for those you love, and for yourself.
I have been guilty of that, in past years – spending more time trying to understand the why’s and the pain of the past rather than focusing on the actions right in front of me. Therefore I hope that you join me this second half of the year in looking forward to another half, that is filled with the possibilities of growing, of learning, of expanding, of loving, and sharing kindness. It is that kindness that is needed right now, and that focus on what we can do, which in the turbulent times, can bring forth solutions, not only for our own little circle of influence but for the world at large.
Join me in asking yourself the following questions instead:
- What can I do in the next six months, that brings me closer to my goals?
- What lessons have I learned, that I can turn into actions for the rest of the year?
- How can I add more of those experiences that make me happy in my life?
In our daily lives, we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful, but the gratefulness that makes us happy.
More questions to ask yourself this upcoming quarter:
- How can I add a gratitude practice into my life?
- Are the goals that I have set for the next half year, based on what I want, or based on what others want me to do?
- How can I serve others more, without compromising my own goals and values?
Based on the answers you have discovered, and the insights you have learned from these questions, you can then construct an action plan, that fits you. If you prefer, you can write these out in your bullet journal, or get yourself a special action journal just for this occasion. I love the feeling of crisp new notebooks for each half of the year, as it motivates me to fill the pages with accomplishments, goals, action plans, and stickers, that make me smile and actually feel like filling the pages.
