My daughter is vegan, my son is vegetarian, and I eat mostly plant-based, while my husband is a carnivore. With a large family that embodies the most different needs when it comes to each individual’s diets, I need something to help me be creative. This book was my hope bringing some light to the tunnel.
For the beginner in the vegan/vegetarian circus of food preparation, this book starts with an extensive section on common vegan ingredients and potential substitutes. Helpful little hints, such as what one can use as an egg replacement, add to the value of this volume.
One of the most important aspects of a good cookbook, and even more so with a Vegan or Vegetarian one, is to see if I can get all of the ingredients at a normal supermarket, or at least an upscale market, such as WholeFoods, without having to hunt for every ingredient. In this case, I was happy to see that it is possible to make these recipes in a “normal” household- nothing drives me more crazy then to having to order something for our meals, and then wasting the rest because it is needed in about 2 recipes, a pinch at a time.
With this more accessible recipe collection, it is uncomplicated to create healthy and great meals, which is important, in today’s busy lives.
Overall I recommend this book for anyone who wants to try to eat less meat and meat products, to a full-time vegan who is looking for options.
